KING NORTH GOLF REVIEW BY GREENREADERNOW.COM

KINGS NORTH….NEW GREENS….GOODBYE BENT !

Jimmy!

This year the fellas and I are looking at changing destinations to Myrtle Beach. We have been to Pinehurst the last two years and have used your website as the foundation of our trips! The last two years I have booked through Joe Gay up at Tobacco Road and he has been more than extraordinary. Do you have any contacts as to who to book through for our Myrtle excursion? We again will have about 12 guys making the journey from Ohio, Florida, Georgia, and Arizona! We want to do it right! As I looked over the list of your top 18 are there any “value” courses in there, as i am not familiar with the area.
You’re the man!
G,
We are looking at Masters week next year (April 8-12). I was there 4-5 years ago and not knowing anything about the area, i played at Wicked Stick and Myrtlewood Palmetto Course. I was not impressed with either of them if that helps you out any.
Chris

JIMMY G RESPONDS !

PERFECT INPUT…..WICKED STICK AND MYRTLE WOOD ARE NOT MY FAVORITES !
HERE IS ONE SUGGESTION….PLAN ON STAYING ON ONE END OF THE BEACH. IF YOUR SOUTH….STAY IN PAWLEYS….YOU DO NOT NEED TO TRAVEL TO LOCATE GREAT TRACKS AND CONDITIONS.
IN FACT IT IS BETTER TO PLAY COURSES WITHIN 10 MILES OF EACH OTHER.
….THE SAME IS TRUE IN THE FAR NORTH END SUCH AS CALABASH…..CENTRAL MYRTLE IS UGLY AND AT TIMES CONGESTED.
ON THE SOUTH END YOU CAN TRAVEL WITHIN 15 MINUTES TO SOME OF “THE BEST”…PAWLEYS PLANTATION WITH NEW GREENS…. CALEDONIA ( PRICY $$$$) TRUE BLU AND THE HERITAGE (VALUE $$$).
TRAVEL 25 MINUTES TO THE 3 LEGENDS….SUPERB CONDITIONS AND VALUE $$$….BUT MORE ABOUT CONDITIONS AS WE MOVE OUT OF JANUARY. YOU MAY WANT TO CONSIDER KINGS NORTH WITH NEW MINI VERDI GREENS ?
CALEDONIA IS PRICEY BUT WORTH IT AND PERHAPS A ONE TIME PLAY. TREMENDOUS.
RT AROUND THE CORNER IS TRUE BLUE AND AROUND THAT CORNER IS WILL-BROOK…A FAVORITE OF MINE WHEN IN TOP FORM.
I WILL POSTING CONDITIONS VERY AGGRESSIVELY AFTER JAN. MOST COURSES AERATE IN JAN-FEB IN MYRTLE.
KEEP SENDING ME YOUR THOUGHTS AND WE CAN GO FROM THAT STANDPOINT.
ON THE NORTH END….I RECOMMEND GLEN DORNOCH,HEATHER GLEN, FARMSTEAD , MEADOWLANDS AND THE 3 NINES AT THE THISTLE. MORE RECOMMENDATIONS COMING IN FEBRUARY AFTER AERATIONS.

    Chris,
Jimmy listed many of the must play MB courses.
Staying north or south saves driving time to courses.
Staying central is best if your group likes nightlife + shopping.

Selecting from the courses Jimmy listed will do it right with quality, but the price will be higher. Many groups play a mix of premium courses and value.

Wicked Stick is only average for MB and Myrtlewood only a little above average. They are not courses to impress guys from around the country.

From Jimmy’s top 18, the value courses in there are River Club, Farmstead, Wachesaw East, Meadowlands. The premium courses Kings North + Grande Dunes have a good value for what you get, especially on Mon-Wed and on the before 8:15am special.

MB is a big area, so select courses based on where you stay. A couple long drives are OK, if you stay central, but you don’t want to play a far north course from a far south lodging.
